How to Get More Instagram Followers

Did you know that 20% of all internet users use Instagram? Since Instagram’s launch date in late 2010, the popular social media platform has grown to over 400 million active users.

If you’re in the travel industry – either a travel agent, travel planner, tour operator, or concierge, Instagram is the perfect space to promote your business. Use the medium to connect with new and current clients, inspire a vacation, host a contest, and so many other ways to utilize the powerful platform for travel.

After you post amazing photos, you’ll need more eyes, right? Here are some easy and effective ways to achieve more engagements and followers.

Use Smart Hashtags

The power of Instagram lies in a good hashtag. A hashtag is how a user can find you and your photo. Did you know that over 70 million photos have been hashtagged with #travel alone? There’s an art to using hashtags and we’ll show you how to master it.

Be creative with your hashtags, but stay relevant. That said, don’t use a hashtag simply for its popularity, doing so can tarnish your account’s credibility.

How many hashtags should I use?

According to a study by Max Woolf, the more hashtags, the more likes.

Find what works for you, though. A lot of users use around 5-10 hashtags, doing more can sometimes look overdone.

Pro Tip: Add hashtags in a comment on the photo instead of with the photo’s caption, that way it doesn’t look overtaken with hashtags when a user first sees your photo.

Follow Other Users

One of the best ways to increase your follower count is also the most simple. Just follow other users! Pick users who you think would be interested in your content and what you have to share and promote. Search through related hashtags and find photos to like and/or comment on. We understand that this can become a tedious job, but consistently taking around 10-15 minutes each day can go a long way on your follower count.

Find the Best Times to Share

Similar to any other social media channel, sharing at the right time will be crucial for engagement and being seen. According to Latergramme, the best times to post is at 2 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST. The worst times they discovered are at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednesday appeared to be the best day to post.

Of course, you might find that other times are best for your audience. You can determine this by keeping track of your analytics and using tools like Latergramme, ScheduGram, and Onlypult to schedule Instagram posts and see which posts are getting responses.
