Waze: The Perfect Road Trip App

This past weekend, I was introduced to the app Waze. At first, I thought it was just like any other GPS app, but I was wrong. If you’re going on a road trip any time soon, I would definitely recommend downloading this free and awesome road trip app!

The website for Waze states, “Waze is the world’s fastest-growing community-based traffic and navigation app. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute.”

Besides getting you from one place to another with step-by-step directions and a map, this app connects you to other drivers, allowing you to see what speed they are going ahead of you. You can also connect with them by typing a message to them, which is helpful if you want to inquire about traffic ahead. You can connect your Facebook to the app, and it will automatically navigate you to your Facebook Events and show you where your Facebook friends who have Waze are on the road! The app wants you to be safe, so it doesn’t allow you to type while driving, unless you click on the option “passenger.”

Waze allows you to report accidents, hazards, police, and anything else you see on the road. Therefore, during your route, Waze will alert you if you are approaching heavy traffic ahead, or you are about to encounter a police officer or an accident. Just by simply driving around with the app open, you’re already contributing tons of real-time traffic and road information to your local driving community. Waze allows you to find the cheapest gas stations along your route, and it makes it fun and simple to meet up with friends on the road!
