A Q&A with SocialTravelr App

What if there was an app that allowed you to connect with travelers while sitting at an airport because your flight has been delayed five hours? Well, there’s an app for that! SocialTravelr was created by a flight attendant named Pamela Creighton who has spent about 90% of her life in airports. So why not create a place for travelers to connect and make new friends? We wanted to know more so we asked Pamela a few questions!

Q: Can you briefly tell us what SocialTravlr is all about and how it works?

SocialTravelr is an app that connects travelers while waiting on their delayed, canceled, and connecting flights. Travelers can set the date and time and airport their traveling prior to arriving or while they are waiting at the airport. They can set their status to grab food, a drink, coffee or just to chat. Once they set their statuses, they can see who will have the same status and invite that person for further conversation in a chat room. People can follow each other and have their own feed where they can share their pictures to keep up with their new friends.

Q: How did you come up with the idea to create SocialTravelr?

I’m a flight attendant based at Chicago O’hare. One day, I was walking in the airport and I saw a man sitting at the bar having a drink by himself. I thought to myself, “wouldn’t be cool if that person could meet someone while waiting for his flight?” As a flight attendant, I’m in the airports ninety percent of my life. I see travelers eating and drinking by themselves. Or see their frustrations when their flight gets delayed or canceled. I want to make this process of traveling less stressful and less lonely.

Q: Who is the ideal user for this app?

The ideal user would be people that I call “road warriors”: business travelers, travel bloggers, and entertainers. Airline employees can also use the app to keep up with their airline friends or simply meet new ones while waiting to work their flights.

Q: Do you have any interesting stories of friendships you have made while waiting for flights?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any interesting stories. All of my stories relates to me meeting people while working on a plane or meeting them while traveling. I hope my app will allow me to meet new folks while I’m waiting at the airport so I can have stories to share.

Q: How can users sign up and start using the app?

People can download the app on my website, www.socialtravelrapp.com or find it on iTunes, type in SocialTravelr.
