Here’s a quick look at three of the most common myths on the subject of Caribbean holidays which by rights should have been cleared up by now. Discover our favorite Caribbean travel myths debunked.
Myth – The Caribbean is Expensive All Year Round
Truth – While there are certain times of year when it’s only the likes of Simon Cowell that could happily afford to spend a week or two in the Caribbean, the region has peak and low seasons just like everywhere else. And the good news is that these seasons don’t always tie in with what the UK considers to be peak season, which means that while it might be hugely expensive to hit the Med at a certain time of year, it might also be the cheapest time of the year to consider hopping over to the tropics. The short answer is to never, ever simply assume that the Caribbean will be too expensive to afford, without actually checking it out first and finding out what bargains are on offer.
Myth – Hurricane Seasons is Unsafe for Caribbean Holidays
Truth – While there are of course bigger risks of severe weather during hurricane season, the actual odds of you yourself facing a dangerous situation of pretty slim to say the least. Not only is the vast majority of the hurricane season blessed with idyllic weather, but the Caribbean is used to hurricanes and thus knows how to prepare for and protect travellers from severe storms. And what’s more, those that travel during hurricane season enjoy the lowest prices of the whole year, along with the smallest crowds and some of the very best day-to-day weather.
Myth – The Caribbean is No Place for Young Kids
Truth – Exactly where this myth came from is a mystery, as when it comes to kids the Caribbean is a mecca. With some of the most stunning beaches in the world, shallow seas, incredible safety and thousands of families with other kids all running round looking for new friends, it’s actually hard to think of anywhere that’s better-suited to families than the Caribbean. And what’s more – half the time kids go free on package deals!
