During your free time, do something you always wanted to do but never had time to. Go hiking or biking in a state park or some other natural setting. Hang out with the people you’ve been neglecting because… you know, it’s too cold, you’re too busy, [insert your favorite excuse here]!

3. Disconnect

Whenever you can, leave the phone behind, program the DVR, turn off the TV and go have fun outside. You will have plenty of time to binge watch your favorite summer series when comes the colder days of winter.

Instead, gather your friends and go check out the happy hour at your local watering hole or that awesome rooftop bar you’ve been passing up.

And whatever you do, DO NOT BRING WORK HOME! The goal is to disconnect. Remember?

That is why everyone looks forward to summer vacations; to have a fresh new perspectives on things they get back home from a trip. The whole beauty of traveling is that it makes you more aware because it takes you out of your comfort zone to unknown places.

Once again, the secret is to embrace novelty, in your choices of restaurants, drinking holes, or even commuting routes. Whenever you can, go off the beaten path.

However, beware not to make your quest for novelty a routine in itself. Otherwise it will cease to stimulate you and lose its appeal as it loses its… novelty.

6. Be on a vacation

The ultimate secret to make every summer day a holiday is… to make every day a holiday. I know, that is so obvious but it’s amazing how often we tend to forget that.

Unburden yourself, don’t overdo it, and don’t overbook yourself. That’s not what vacationers do, is it?

Leave plenty of holes in your schedule to fill them with spontaneity. As mentioned above, amaze yourself. That is what summer vacations are for.
