Tributes to American Places

Hawaiian Margarita

This frozen margarita will bring the islands to you with a delightful blend of pineapple and strawberry flavors. Served frozen, there might not better way to stay cool during a hot summer party.

  • 1 Cup of ice
  • 1 ½ oz. Tequila
  • ½ oz. Triple Sec
  • 2 oz. Strawberry
  • 2 oz. Pineapple
  • Splash of Sour Mix

Simply put the ingredients into a mixer and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a margarita glass and garnish with fruits.

Long Island Iced Tea

This classic is certainly not your common iced tea or punch. The original recipe (down below) has a very high alcohol concentration just like most of its variants. Some bartenders substitute the lemon juice with sour mix, the Syrup with cranberry, or even pass on the tequila. Just have a look at the Long Beach Tea for a different feel.

  • 1/2 oz. white Rum
  • 1/2 oz. Gin
  • 1/2 oz. Vodka
  • ½ oz. Tequila
  • 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
  • 1 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 1 ¼ oz. Syrup
  • Dash of cola

Pour the vodka, gin, rum, tequila and triple sec into a Highball glass with ice. Almost fill it with juice and syrup. Add the splash of coke. Done!

Manhattan

Prepare your cocktail glass for the most traditional of all cocktails. You probably try this one before. And chances are it was made with bourbon or Canadian whiskey instead of the rye whiskey it was intended to be made with. Popular variants include the Metropolitan and the Rob Roy, which would certainly make great patriotic cocktails as well.

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • ½ oz. sweet red vermouth
  • 1 Cup of ice
  • Dash Angostura bitters
  • Maraschino Cherry

Place ice in a mixing glass. Stir whiskey into vermouth. Strain into a cocktail glass. Add the dash of bitters and garnish with a cherry.

American Pride Cocktails

American Dream

We owe this one to the master mixologist Bridget Albert. This tasty patriotic cocktail is the result of the marriage of pomegranate and cherry liqueurs. Fondant is used for the finish touch: the paste is cut into stars which will serve as glass decoration and sweetener.

  • 1 oz. Pomegranate Liqueur
  • 1 oz. black cherry rum
  • 1 1/2 oz. pomegranate cherry juice
  • 1/2 oz. fresh sour mix
  • White fondant
  • Blueberries for garnish

Cut mini stars out of the fondant. Stick the stars into the inside of a cocktail glass using water. Shake the rest of the ingredients together and strain into the star-filled glass and garnish with the berries.

Hail to the Chief

“Hail to the Chief” is no longer just the official Presidential Anthem of the United States. Since the inauguration of Barack Obama, it is THE patriotic cocktail; a ginger-grape cocktail drink that will put the final American note (and color theme) to your 4th of July.

  • 1 1/2 oz. Grape Vodka
  • 1 oz. ginger ale
  • 1 teaspoon of raw sugar
  • 4 blackberries
  • Fresh peeled ginger
  • Blackberries and candied ginger for garnish

Muddle the 4 blackberries, ginger and sugar in a pint glass. Add ice and the Grape Vodka. Shake vigorously and strain over ice. Top with ginger ale, garnish and serve.

Add to this list, the Firecracker, the Fourth Martini or the Yankee Doodle and you have a great patriotic cocktail recipe book that will turn your 4th of July celebration into a blast.
